Over a decade of Interior Design experience + successful projects. This is my Journal of Design.

A well-designed space makes you feel good, and yet so many people walk through their front door or go to their office, and they’re not excited or bettered by the space they’re in. Good design is a dialogue. You should affect the space you’re in, and your space should then affect you. Both positively.

Spring Decor: Farmhouse Family Room

Happy Monday, buddies!
Wanted to give you a quick little tour around our living/family room with all the springtime yummies strewn about!
Sources will be linked below!
🌿🌸🌱

For this year’s spring looks, I was inspired by the soft pinky peach of the ranunculus flowers I love (and would for sure kill if I didn’t use faux 😩).  I don’t use tons of bright colors for my base decor (rugs, furniture, etc), but it sure is fun to sprinkle it all around with low commitment items like throw pillows and faux florals.  😉  Spruced up the couch with some peachy pink pillows and filled up the vintage dough bowl with springtime blooms!
(🌸🌿Curious about my favorite faux florals and greens?  Check out this round up [HERE]! 🌿🌸 )

If we are buddies over on Instagram [CLICK HERE], you’ll recognize those vintage bottle chandeliers I made using herb drying racks and

Printable Room Planner to Help You Plan Your Layout > Life Your Way

Printable Room Planner

I am so excited to share these printable room planners with you today!

But first, I have to tell you that most of the credit goes to my amazing husband because I would have given up long before finishing these printables if it wasn’t for his help. He’s the real decorator, designer and Photoshop expert in the family, and this project proved it once again.

A family friend first introduced us to the idea of using a room planner years ago when she told us how she would cut out shapes to represent her furniture and practice moving them around a representative room she’d drawn to scale. Then, as we began building our home 5 years ago, we fell in love with Ikea’s kitchen planner, which allowed us to plan our kitchen in detail and choose the fixtures we needed to make everything fit perfectly.

This printable room planner gives

6 Exterior Home Design Trends for 2019

With 2019 underway, homeowners all over the country are starting to think about new ways to renovate their home in this new year.

While updating the interior of your home to keep it fresh and welcoming can be easy, finding ways to revamp the outside of your home can feel like a challenge. Rather than putting off your exterior for another year, take charge and make an effort towards ramping up your home’s curb appeal.

Exterior Home Design Trends for 2019

1. Replacing Timber with Steel Siding

steel siding

To reduce waste, it’s best to leave real wood siding on your home until it reaches the end of its lifespan. However, if your wood siding is already looking aged, 2019 is the year to ditch the timber and think about steel.

Steel siding is a beautiful alternative to real wood, offering

Top 10 Mistakes in Web Design

Since my first attempt in 1996, I have compiled many top-10 lists of the biggest mistakes in Web design. See links to all these lists at the bottom of this article. This article presents the highlights: the very worst mistakes of Web design. (Updated 2011.) Cartoon- Man searching for 'Honalulu' and getting no results.- Woman: 'Oh, forget it. Let's just go visit my mother in Fargo.'

1. Bad Search

Overly literal search engines reduce usability in that they’re unable to handle typos, plurals, hyphens, and other variants of the query terms. Such search engines are particularly difficult for elderly users, but they hurt everybody.

A related problem is when search engines prioritize results purely on the basis of how many query terms they contain, rather than on each document’s importance. Much better if your search engine calls out “best bets” at the top of the list — especially for important queries, such as the names of your products.

Search is the user’s lifeline when navigation fails. Even though advanced search can

5 Ways to Upgrade Your Family Room for Luxury and Comfort

In this post: Are you looking to update the room you spend most of your time in? These family room upgrades will add luxury and comfort to your most used room.⇒

smart home family room upgrade

I fall asleep on the couch every night.

No joke.

Our family room is so comfortable that although I’m simply chilling out, or even when I’m finishing my work, I find myself nodding out. Ok, more accurately, flat out sleeping. Y’know, head drooped so low you get lipstick on your own shirt!

But it wasn’t always this way.  In our old house, I never felt entirely relaxed in our family room. It was the largest room in the house and the one with the most promise, but it never quite succeeded in making us feel at home. And I always knew this was my fault. You can decorate a room beautifully, but to really function properly and help you
