Minnesota Casual Family Room
As you may already know, we like to share a variety of design styles on this blog, and show you different ways to incorporate the looks into your home.
One of the most popular design styles we’ve shared to date is Minnesota Casual – a look that is approachable and comfortable, yet definitely isn’t lacking in style.
Even though we already talked about how to get the look in this post, we thought it might be fun to show you what it can look like when this design style is carried throughout an entire home.
So, in our Tuesday posts for the next month or so, we’ll be highlighting a different room of the home decorated in Minnesota Casual style.
First up: A Minnesota Casual family room…
The ceiling design in this family room (from our room shoot at Swanson Homes) definitely made a design statement. The circular inset incorporated a variety of rustic wood pieces arranged in a chevron pattern, and it was stunning!
(It was difficult to capture, but I had to at least try. I was pretty sure you would love it as much as we did.)
The room also had a beautiful wooded view that was highlighted by large windows that were finished in a walnut stain. That view, combined with the mix of wood tones in the ceiling, provided great inspiration for our designers when choosing furniture and accessories for the space.
Rather than loading the room with color, we ran with a neutral, nature-inspired theme. As you can see, it turned out to be a great example of how to mix a variety of neutral materials and shapes for an interesting and inviting look.
The family room was already carpeted, but the Feizy Barbary hand knotted rug (sold in our stores) helped to define the seating area and add some additional pattern and texture underfoot.
For a comfortable and cozy seating choice, our designers chose not one but two of our Stampede Chestnut sofas. Their squared off design gives them a more contemporary feel and extra details, like the stitching and contrast welt, up the wow factor.
The scale of the room very easily accommodated the sofas, and the placement worked great with the room’s layout.
Tables and accessories.
The Gillian Cocktail and end table added unique, organic shape to the room, and the glass tops provided a nice reflective element to lighten things up.
We kept both the functional and decorative accessories minimal and neutral (but interesting), and our versatile water color pillows look just as good here as they did in our “new traditional” space!
This Minnesota Casual family room is a perfect setup for lazily lounging around, or entertaining family and friends, isn’t it? I could totally see myself enjoying this space.
What’s your favorite part of the look?
